Employee engagement

Employee engagement, as measured by the APS Employee Census 2016, has improved since 2015, with two indicators ('job' and 'team' engagement) tracking higher and two ('supervisor' and 'agency') remaining steady. This outcome maintains our relatively strong employee engagement performance compared with similar APS organisations.

The ATO has taken a holistic approach to employment issues relating to health, conduct, attendance, and workplace health and safety to help reshape our culture. This has seen our rolling 12 month average unplanned leave reduce to the lowest rate since November 2003 (14.4 days per full-time equivalent in June 2016).
