We are working on more convenient and secure ways for business to access digital services. The ATO Business Portal, accessed almost 7 million times during 2015–16, is the main business entry point for ATO online transactions and services.
While the portal was originally accessible only with an AUSkey, a new login option, Manage ABN Connections, released in May 2016, now allows individuals to use their myGov sign-in to access accounts for businesses they operate or work for. As well as being able to use their personal sign-in credential to access business tax services, this function allows access to the Business Portal from any web-enabled device.
People who operate businesses as sole traders can also access business online services via myGov or the ATO app.
For businesses that use cloud-based Standard Business Reporting (SBR)-enabled software, we released a new authentication solution that allows them to interact with the ATO and other agencies without an AUSkey. We are now focused on driving take-up in the software industry and across government.
The ATO has also been working with the Digital Transformation Office and other agencies to explore whole-of-government solutions for businesses to access government services, and receive notifications and messages in a digital mailbox.
