Operational performance

During Tax Time 2015 (July to October 2015) there were 5.9 million current year returns lodged electronically by tax agents and 2.8 million lodged via myTax and e-tax, representing an increase in electronic lodgments of 2% for all clients over the previous year. Paper lodgments continued to decline by a further 15.7% to 531,000 in 2015 over the previous year.

By 30 June 2016, 88.0% of 2014–15 income tax returns had been lodged, with 82.3% lodged on time. Overall lodgment of tax returns has steadily improved over the past five years.

For 2015–16 activity statements, 90.5% had been lodged by 30 June 2016, with 78.1% lodged on time. Activity statement lodgment rates have remained relatively stable over the last five years.
