Procurement

Our purchasing was undertaken in accordance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and the Commonwealth Procurement Rules.

This year, we continued to focus on delivering procurement and contract management solutions to meet the changing nature of the organisation, working across government and pursuing continuous improvement in our procurement and contract management practices and processes.

The ATO continues to play a strong leadership role at the whole-of-government level in supporting the Indigenous supplier diversity strategy. In May 2016, this role was recognised at the Supply Nation Connect 2016 Supplier Diversity Awards where the ATO was awarded ‘Government Member of the Year’.

We support small business participation in the Australian Government procurement market. Statistics on Commonwealth procurement contracts awarded to small-to-medium enterprises and small enterprises are available on the website of the Department of Finance at finance.gov.au/procurement.

We exceeded the government’s target to pay at least 90% of invoices to small businesses within 30 days, achieving 97% for the year. Full results of the Survey of Australian Government Payments to Small Business are available on Treasury’s website at treasury.gov.au.
